Featuring a spoken word section from Michael Pedersen of Neu! Reekie!, a multi-media arts event of which I once gushed:

Neu! Reekie! is a shot in the arm for the too-long supine capital music scene, and seamlessly woven poetry, film and a filial sense of occasion into the fabric. Michael Pedersen and Kevin Williamson have fused generations as well as art forms and created a happening that warms the walls of Old Edinburgh and reaches out with inclusive effervescence.

A creative call-to-arms to savour at the end of each month, Neu! Reekie! has proved elastic enough to wholly engage, involve and enrich any shape of payday Friday for those with keen eyes and open ears, providing a rich and pithy bang for a very reasonable five bucks.
The enterprising Pedersen and Williamson should be lauded for initiating Neu! Reekie! events in Glasgow, too, in a deft demonstration of what our capital city has on offer via an inclusive melting pot of performed poetry, filmic wonder and mesmerizing music.

Neu! Reekie! amply illustrates that edgy and celebratory art is not just for the Festival and Fringe, that the livewire buzz of a vibrant music and arts scene is not Glasgow’s alone. Bridging the M8 in a fertile fashion unseen since the halcyon hugs of late 80s acid house or even since the preternatural peer groups of punk/post-punk explosion of the late 70s, Neu! Reekie! deserves this award for firmly establishing Edinburgh as a joyously perennial hip hub of creative endeavour and taking the show on the road without forfeiting a cubic inch of artistic Edinburgh identity.
